Hive Mind--Input Requested, Please?

Hive mind:

When buying a work of art from an independent artist, does a story explaining the piece make it mean more to you than just your appreciation of the piece?

Is the background information in the online listing enough?
Would a printed card accompanying the piece when you received it be appreciated?
Would you prefer a handwritten note explaining the piece and thanking you for your patronage?

Thanks!

I love knowing the background, and it makes a difference in my purchasing behavior. What I suggest comes with the art would depend greatly on what the pricerange of the item was - with a high-end limited edition print or original, I think a card with information about it is a really nice touch. With a sticker, it's overkill. A hand-written signature or brief 'thanks!' would be enough for me, the whole thing doesn't have to be.
