Hive Mind--Input Requested, Please?

Hive mind:

When buying a work of art from an independent artist, does a story explaining the piece make it mean more to you than just your appreciation of the piece?

Is the background information in the online listing enough?
Would a printed card accompanying the piece when you received it be appreciated?
Would you prefer a handwritten note explaining the piece and thanking you for your patronage?

Thanks!

So maybe a printed card explaining some of the symbolism, and then on the back a quick "Thanks for your purchase! The (fill-in-the-blank) pattern (or color or what have you) is always one of my favorites." and then signed?
